Discoveries in Geosciences (DIG) Field School
  • An award-winning professional development and K–12 STEM education program led by Greg Wilson Mantilla and Burke Museum Education.
  • The DIG aims to increase teacher effectiveness and student success in STEM subjects through immersive learning experiences.
  • We bring K-12 teachers to active field research sites in Montana and Arizona where they are incorporated into the team while they learn about paleontology and geology of the area, collect fossils, and assist research on the rise of dinosaurs or the K/Pg mass extinction event.
  • The DIG provides year-round educational resources, support, and engagement with authentic research via online and in-person workshops and DIG Boxes with bags of fossil-rich sediment from field areas and NGSS lessons on evolution, geology, and paleontology.
Funding: David B. Jones Foundation, Norcliffe Foundation, TEW Foundation, Paleontological Society, many valued individual donors
Ghosts of Hell Creek
  • The flagship project of Prehistoric Body Theater is led by Ari Dharminalan Rudenko, PhD.
  • This dance-theater performance brings to life an epic 500-million-year story of humanity's ancestral origins, culminating in the apocalyptic events of the Chicxulub asteroid impact and ensuing mass extinction of non-avian dinosaurs.
  • Greg Wilson Mantilla serves as the lead scientific consultant for this project.
  • Supported by the UW College of Arts and Sciences 2017 Bergstrom Award, Ghosts of Hell Creek presented two sold-out performances at UW Meany Studio Theater.
Funding: UW College of Arts & Science Bergstrom Award for Art and Science
