Interested in joining the Wilson-Mantilla Lab? For prospective graduate students and postdocs, also check out the resources available on the UW Biology or ESS websites.
Prospective Undergraduate VolunteersThe Wilson Mantilla Lab is looking for motivated undergraduates to assist with fossiliferous sediment processing and data collection. Students will have the chance to work with fossils from dinosaurs, mammals, fish, and other vertebrates, as well as meaningfully contribute to ongoing research projects and gain valuable lab experience.
Qualified applicants should have an interest in evolutionary biology, paleontology, and/or geology. Preference will go to Paleobiology minors or students pursuing Biology, Anthropology, or ESS degrees. Beyond the intellectual interest, students should be prepared to put in at least 3 hrs of lab time per week and commit to at least two quarters of work. The lab work involves processing and sorting through sediments using a microscope. This work can be tedious and requires careful attention and patience. Interested students should contact lab manager Dave DeMar directly. Please include a resume, a transcript, and brief statement of interest. |
Prospective Graduate StudentsGraduate students in the Wilson Mantilla Lab work on diverse topics in paleoecology, functional morphology and evolutionary biology. Projects are highly integrative, combining paleontology fieldwork with collections work and analytical approaches. Graduate students are mentored to be independent, creative and proactive in their research while also pursuing endeavors outside of research like mentorship and outreach.
We accept PhD students through both Biology and Earth & Space Sciences (ESS) departments and MSc students only through ESS. Please visit their respective graduate program websites to find deadlines and program requirements. Also contact the PI Greg Wilson Mantilla directly with a CV and a brief email of your research interests and reasons for your interest in our lab. The lab mentoring compact is available upon request. |
